ANGELA KERRISON, SOPRANO
Based in Zurich

A member of the International Opera Studio in Zurich , soprano Angela Kerrison originally hails from Botswana. A graduate of UCT, she completed her Performers Diploma in Opera at the South African College of Music before leaving Zurich in 2006. She made her professional operatic debut in 2004 as Violetta in La Traviata at the Joseph Stone Theatre in Athlone and in the same year performed the rols at Artscape to critical acclaim. Other roles include Adele in Die Fledermaus at Artscape and Veronica Jonkers in Thomas Rajna's Valley Song. She also sang Mimi in La Boheme in Cape Town and Magnolia in Cape Town Opera's production of Show Boat in Cape Town and Germany. Earlier this year, she debuted the full song-cycle Haya, Mntwan' Omkhulu (Sing, Princess!) by Princess Constance Magogo in London, with South African pianist DeWet Bruwer ,at the Royal Academy of Music.
While a member of the Cape Town Opera Studio, she sang various roles, including Gretel in Hansel and Gretel and Belinda in Dido and Aeneas for CTO at Spier. Other roles include Leila in The Pearl Fishers and Despina in Cosi fan Tutte. She has also appeared as soloist in oratorios with the Philharmonia Choir in Schubert's Mass in E flat, Mozart's Requiem and sang Mendelssohn's Elijah in Bloemfontein.
During her student years, Angela worked with eminent vocal pedagogue Sarita Stern. She recently sang the role of Pamina in William Kentridge's production of Die Zauberflote for Cape Town Opera at Artscape.
