Julie Hartley, born in East London, South Africa, embarked on her theatrical musicals career when she was just 16 years old as a singer and dancer in the chorus of SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN. The following year, her final year at school, she played the title role of CINDERELLA and has since gone on to build up an enviable track record of leading roles in South African musicals. She has played Guinevere in CAMELOT, Gigi in GIGI, Sandy in GREASE, Laurey in OKLAHOMA!, Polly and Patsy in CRAZY FOR YOU, Barbara Winters in SUMMER HOLIDAY, Nancy in OLIVER! and Ellie in SHOWBOAT. The most challenging role in this genre for Julie was playing Marilyn Monroe in MARILYN LIVE!
Julie has also explored other mediums of the industry extensively and successfully. Television credits include featured cameo roles in EGOLI, SINBAD, SURBURBAN BLISS, GOING UP, 37 HONEYSTREET, PLACE OF LIONS AND STREAKS. She landed her first leading role in a feature film in 1994 in the naughty South African comedy, LIPSTICK, DIPSTICK. She now has seven more leading roles to her credit, shot and released locally and internationally. THE EASTERN BRIDE was shot in South Africa and the Far East and MERLIN – THE RETURN, where once again, Julie played Guinevere, was released in the United Kingdom. Other leading roles include, HITCHHIKER, STORMS OF THE HEART, THE LITTLE UNICORN, CRIME OF LOVE and HOODED ANGELS, where Julie enjoyed herself immensely as a bad cowgirl, riding horses, shooting guns and getting shot spectacularly herself!
Julie is now based in Cape Town, and when not singing and acting, she works as a voice over artist. She has performed in numerous Corporate Extravaganzas and Shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg, for Toyota, ABSA, Nissan, Daimler Chrysler, Alfa, Opel Corsa, IBM, Altron, PEP, Alcatel, M-tel, to mention but a few. Julie still continues to be very busy in the corporate market as a soloist, part of a jazz trio and part of a 12 piece brass band. She is passionate about her work, but when not performing, you will find her pottering about the stables or walking her equally lively dog, Leo!
