340ml
Based in Johannesburg
The southern African four-member group 340ml is currently based in Johannesburg but has its roots firmly planted in Mozambique. The release of their first album in 2003 earned them critical praise, and opened the doors to a wide range of public performances. Titled Moving, the album was one of the most effortlessly evocative recorded in South Africa during 2003, casting a musical glow that speaks of hazy beach sunsets, languid afternoons and blissed out summer fun. CAPE TANGO ENSEMBLE

The Cape Town Tango Ensemble specializes in Argentinean Tango ranging from the old fashioned Classical Tango style from the first half of 20th century up to the Tango “Nuevo”, started and developed by the famous Argentinean composer and Bandoneon virtuoso Astor Piazzolla. Their latest ideas explore the mixing between African Rhythms and sounds with the “Tango Nuevo” style. Hence is the name of their album “Tango in Africa”. MORE

SHANTY
Based in Cape Town
The band Shanty has been together for many years, and are the leading exponents of traditional Irish music in Cape Town. They also write their own material and perform a variety of folk music from other English-speaking countries. The name Shanty is derived from the Irish gaelic "sean-tigh", meaning "old house". Early Irish immigrants to America (like the Kennedys) lived in the old parts of towns such as Boston, and so became known as "shanty-dwellers". MORE
